What can I do on-board a cruise ship?

Are all cruise ships the same?

There is a huge difference in cruise ships from old to brand new super liners.

What is a typical day at sea?

The sea days are very relaxing with restaurants open all day and the opportunity to explore the ship.

For example the choices are vast sunbathe on deck, have a spa treatment, join in the entertainment programme dancing, quizzes or catch a show.

The casino, gym, shops or cinemas will all be at your fingertips.

What can I expect on a shore excursion?

Shore excursions give you a superb snapshot of any destination you visit.

These are always normally guided so they really bring to life each port.

These can be full or half day trips depending on your preference.

What type of clothes do I need?

Most cruises have formal nights so in a week on average two will take place. Gents attire here is a tuxedo whilst for ladies it is a cocktail dress or ball gown.

The remainder of the evenings are more casual affairs.

Depending on which places you visit the suggested clothes will vary. But the Mediterranean and Caribbean will generally be fine with short sleeves throughout the day. The Fjords, Alaska and Scandinavia will have the need for more substantial clothing.

When will I get my air schedule if I book the air as a package?

All tickets will be with you with luggage labels 10 - 14 days prior to sailing.

Is there transportation to the ship from the airport?

In most cases all transfers when booked with a package are included.

How long does it take to board a cruise ship?

Can I cancel my cruise?

Yes. The closer to the departure date the higher the cancellation charges.

Should I purchase Travel Insurance?

There are very few countries where visas are required for British nationals but this is constantly being updated. Here are the most popular ones:

Singles Section

Are there just singles passengers on-board a singles cruise?

There is no such thing as a singles cruise however there are sailings which offer low or no single supplements.

These cruise lines have a dedicated solo entertainment programmes and meetings. Single cruisers are also normally seated together for dining.

How can I avoid paying a single supplement?

This is so difficult as these sailings appear for very short periods.

What is the average age of passengers on a your singles cruises?

This varies by cruise line - for example Fred Olsen and Cruise & Maritime is averaging 65 where MSC is much lower circa 50.

I am a single parent - can I bring my children with me?

Yes however you will always pay an adult fare for the first child sharing.

Is a singles cruise suitable for a single parent travelling with children?

Yes however this can be expensive.

Is a singles cruise safe for female passengers?

Yes totally more so than any other holiday type.

Are there security teams on-board?

Yes there are.

Do I have to book direct with a cruise line to join singles group activities?

Are single cabins smaller than normal cabins ?

There are solo cabins which are smaller. However increasingly cruise lines are now releasing twin cabins for some occupancy which is great news.

Also there are now even dedicated solo bars and lounges on certain ships which makes it easier to meet like minded travelling companions.
